Absolute Tranquility

🍓 First Taste of Nabirat’s Strawberry Tart Fête

I hadn’t planned on stumbling into one of the most charming food festivals I’ve ever experienced—but that’s exactly what happened when I visited Nabirat yesterday. This tiny village in the Dordogne seemed sleepy at first glance, but the moment I arrived at the Fête de la Tarte aux Fraises, it was clear something special was happening.

The whole village was alive—music playing, children laughing, stalls full of fresh produce and handmade goods. But the real centerpiece? A giant strawberry tart. I’m talking bigger-than-a-car huge. Locals told me it measured over 30 square meters, and it smelled absolutely divine—flaky pastry, vanilla cream, and heaps of ripe, glossy strawberries.

I waited in line like everyone else, chatting with a friendly couple who told me they’d been coming every year since their kids were little. When I finally got my slice, it was as good as it looked—light, sweet, and fresh from the communal oven.

There were performances, a fun fair for kids, and even a traditional bread baking demonstration. I left with sticky fingers, a full heart, and the certainty that I’d be back again. Nabirat might be small, but for one weekend in April, it’s the sweetest place in France.
